About Gretta Schwartz

Gretta was an outstanding physical education teacher at Western Canada High School in the 1950’s and Assistant Supervisor of Physical Education for the Calgary Board of Education in the 60’s. She was a strong advocate for girls physical education and athletics and through her leadership raised their level of recognition and importance to new levels of success.

About the Award

This is the Calgary Booster Club & CSHSAA’s second oldest award as partners and was presented in 1958 for the first time to Judy Matthews of Western Canada. The Gretta Schwartz Memorial Award honours the top female student athlete in grade 12 and recognizes her achievements over three years of high school.
