Arthur "Scotty" Kay

“Scotty” Kay, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is a man who has made sport, particularly hockey, his life for nearly a half century.
Scotty came to Canada, and Calgary, in 1911. He began playing hockey as a “rink rat” in Lloyd Turner’s old Victoria Arena where he played defence for the juvenile and junior Tigers. He played intermediate hockey for the old Ogden Maroons and the Calgary Altomahs.
In 1952 Scotty obtained a franchise for the C.P.R. Beavers, a team in the “Big Six” hockey league. For the next 13 years he served as manager, president and coach to keep the team alive.
In 1960 Scotty was named manager of the “Big Six Selects”, a team chosen to play the touring Soviet team. The Russian team won the game 5-3. The Big Six league folded in 1965, however Scotty was instrumental in the league reorganization in 1967. He is currently the past president of the Big Six League.
Scotty has been a tireless worker for the Junior B hockey league for many years and has held the position of vice-president for the past six years. He is a member of a four-man committee responsible for raising funds for what now appears to be a permanent Junior B Hockey Scholarship.
Scotty spends much of his free time skating and playing golf. The Booster Club is proud to add his name to the distinguished list of former sportsmen of the year.
