A new executive leadership team has been elected to guide the Calgary Booster Club.
The board of directors of the organization – which recognizes and supports achievement and leadership in sport – chose a new president and vice-presidents at its annual general meeting in early October.
Mark Hlady, who was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Alberta for the Calgary Mountain View riding from 1993 through 2004, was elected as president.
Hlady is a University of Calgary graduate and founder of the post-secondary school’s triathlon club, which was a first in Canada.
“I am truly honoured to be named the new President of the Calgary Booster Club. I will do my best to raise the level of awareness of the Booster Club in Calgary and help improve all sport by working with other sport organizations to help our youth achieve their goals,” said Hlady.
He takes over from outgoing president, Carol Hermansen, who served in that role since 2019, making her the longest serving president in our history.
“It has been an honour to serve this organization and to work alongside so many dedicated people who believe in the importance of supporting amateur athletes and volunteers in our community. Over the years, I have seen firsthand the difference the Calgary Booster Club can make in an athlete’s journey and the important role volunteers play in building and strengthening sport in Calgary,” said Hermansen in the president’s year-end report.
Added Hermansen: “As I complete my term as President, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported me and the Club. It has been a privilege to serve as President, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.”
Hermansen will remain with the Calgary Booster Club by serving as past president in supporting the new leadership team.
In addition to the change of president, there are a few other changes within the executive committee.
Michael Boyles and Kurtis Wasylyshen were elected as vice-presidents, Al Taylor was elected as the secretary, while Mark Kosak and Tammy Cave are outgoing VPs.
