The Female Athlete of the Year is honoured with the Henry Viney Trophy, which is named after the long-time sports director of CFCN Radio-Television. The Scott-Mamini Award – named after former Calgary Albertan sports editor Harry Scott and Calgary Herald sports department head Bob Mamini – is handed out each year to the top Male Athlete of the Year.
Both Athlete of the Year winners – who will be revealed on March 25th – represented Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games. Previous winners of the Female Athlete of the Year award include Stephanie Labbe, Isabelle Weidemann, Hayley Wickenheiser, Cindy Klassen and Catriona Le May Doan, while Male Athlete of the Year recipients include Dustin Wolf, Mark Giordano, Jon Cornish, Mark Tewksbury, Stephen Ames, Kyle Shewfelt and Jarome Iginla.
The Sportsperson of the Year is awarded annually to someone who has selflessly contributed 25 or more years of service as a coach, official, volunteer or administrator in the Calgary area.
The Calgary Booster Club also recognizes the Special Olympics Calgary Athlete of the Year with the Jack Gregory Award. Gregory has been a Special Olympics Calgary ambassador for more than three decades.
Honoured Athletic Leader accolades are given to individuals who are difference makers, sport promoters, and those with established track records of single-minded dedication to the sporting landscape.
Award recipients will be recognized at the Calgary Booster Club’s annual sports gala, which takes place on Sunday, April 19th at the Grey Eagle Resort Banquet Room. The Calgary Booster Club has funded and promoted sport in the city since 1952 and remains dedicated to the development and encouragement of athletic endeavor.
